I have a business and I want more leads, I think I need SEO – what is it?

Yes you need it. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is a process of getting you leads from the search engines such as Google. It is a form of marketing for your business with a focus of being online.

Is it expensive?

SEO should pay for itself, simple. Any marketing should give you a Return On Investment (ROI). That means if you put money into it you should receive that money back plus profit.

Should I do other marketing?

Yes. SEO is a part of a larger marketing machine called Internet Marketing (IM) and is often called Inbound Marketing. Clever marketing is gestalt and SEO is part of this bigger or more holistic picture.

SEO is an essential cog in the overall marketing machine. Quite often good Internet Marketing ideas begin “offline” i.e. via promotion of your business by flyers or in the newspaper where you direct your customers to your website.

How long does it take?

It depends on what you want and how competitive your field is. SEO is an ongoing process and so requires a contract which is usually rolled forward month by month, stopping the optimisation process can be bad for your website as your “rankings” (the position in the search engines of your website) will drop.
